This announcement is being made with sorrow, however we feel it is something that has to be done.
During one of the trips over the weekend, we had an incident in which resulted in a car over-turning. Both the driver and passenger were uninjured in the accident and walked away unscathed, thanks to the safety measures taken beforehand. A mention here, the driver showed great gratitude to the Marshal team that handled the situation in a very professional manner, thoroughly checking the occupants before allowing them to exit the vehicle and liasing with the relevant authorities.
We are looking into events that led to this incident from all perspectives and will be interviewing all those concerned to get an understanding of how we ended up with this situation. The task force has been formed, the investigation is currently underway and all findings will be made available. We trust that all those who participate in the investigation will do so with integrity.
This incident aside, we are all aware that offroading is considered an extreme sport, and as with all extreme sports it has a level of risk. This risk is minimised through various measures taken (ie compitence training, properly maintaining vehicles, using rated/reputable equipment and ustilising of safety equipment), however, there is always a chance that a "perfect Storm" is created, where events cumulate into such an incident.
To end, whatever the investigation findings are, we need to keep an open mind, take lessons learned from this, and put measures in place to ensure that this does not happen again. Please lets keep in the back of our minds, that things happen in the desert, bumpers get damaged, radios get lost and some people end up leaving their cars there for days, however we are out to have fun and enjoy the environment, all with the intention of returning home safely so that we can do it again next week.
