As you'll see from the Junior Offroaders Trips I have listed a small event. It was quickly subscribed to with the 6 places being filled in 24hours. As a result i closed the trip. One member left a post that they would like to be on the waiting list and i replied to that. Next day another member pulls out but can't change his status because I closed it. I've opened it again to allow the retiring member to post and the incoming to add their name to the list. I've amended my original post to say that the trip is only open again for these two people to add their names. Being the eternal realist I can see some other members reading the top part and then adding their name to it before realising that they shouldn't. Fair enough, with the trip being open they can take their name out, if they realise the mistake and haven't added their name just hours before the event.

To get to the point (at long last I hear you say). I'd like to close the trip and amend it myself when others need to make changes. I prevents the above from happening and me accidentally giving a place to someone who shouldn't be on or who says he can't make it, can't change his status and then decides it's OK he can come along after all, and since he didn't take his name off he should be first. So, is that possible, the originator having administrator rites?

For a small trip it's not really a problem but larger trips where people say they can come then can't, or there are a lot of TBC, then the result of the trip manager for the organiser is the same as it was before.
; read through all the posts and figure out who is and is not coming, defeating the purpose of the trip manager. For everyone else it is much easier until they try to figure out whether they are in or out because they can't figure it out either.

I'll leave you with that post and write another. (hears groaning coming from the back)

Hey, I don't post that often so read it all! :o

I'm all for people saying they would like to come but can't say whether they will be free. If our lives were predictable we'd be bored. But with the new Trip Manager it becomes a person listed on the event. I believe they are inserted in order and that's fine for me asking for a set number of junior offroaders. With other trips they are inserted in order within the member's ranking. If you say the trip is open for 15 cars then and if oversubscribed you've no idea who subscribed when and who to boot out.

Back to the TBC bit. Does that place you in front of someone who says they will come? If you say no then there is little point to it other than courtesy and people will say they are coming when there may be a chance they are not, pulling out at the last minute and making work for the conscientious organiser trying to fill a last minute spot.

I'd like to see some kind of guide for this. "You may place your name as TBC but if there are sufficient members attending (marked as IN) to fill all slots then you will be excluded from the trip" or something like that.

In theory ...members posting a YES will have priority over TBC members and if the trip gets full then tough luck for the TBC people

Good points there. But i feel if the tbc dont change there status then dont send a sms.
This trip manager is a trail an error. An may take some work off the trip leader but not every thing.
And maybe the leader can point out to the tbc that if spots get fulled before they confirm then they ar automatical out into the trip description.
Just a thought

Good point, Joy

If you don't confirm before the day before the trip you are automatically out.

You are right the trip manager will be a lot of trail and error, but it can't work with positive feed back.

Ayoob you are doing a great job, hope all the feedback from every one helps to refine the trip manager. If you need any help pls. let me know, maybe I can help?
At old end of the day it will make it much easier for the organizers and it looks professional.

I agree that editing privileges are a good idea for trip planners (or Marsh/Exp's), and also agree with the above, regarding TBC participants.
Question: When a senior driver sponsors a trip, will the assisting Marshal have to edit the trip-manager for that SR?

(Ayoob - are you pulling yer hair out yet?)

Yes the Marshal have to create the trip and manage it.
