upgrades anyone?

Fri Apr 08, 2011 3:19 am

How does one qualify for an upgrade?

Is it up to the marshals?
after say 10 or more trips out with the club (in my case) (or less?) (or how daredevil u are?)
is it just random? and as the marshalls feel like it?

would like to know...

thanks

Hi martino, sorry to hear about this. I am sure there is a very good reason behind it. We have recently finalized procedures and guidelines for upgrades and I am sure the powers that be will be ready to publish them soon if they haven't already (I've been away for a while, so I am out of the loop a little)!

Let me see what the other marshals and founders are up to, I am sure they will reply to this too, and will see about getting the procedures published soon! In the mean time, hang in there and keep pushing, I am sure you will do well! :D

DEAR MARTIN4X4

the upgrades go along the lines of
jo to offroader ---- offroader to senior

trips need to consist of driving on trips with 4 different marshals in 4 different areas,
al ain , al kathim al khazan, swedian

by doing this you get the experience and new challenges from each marshal, and they then can see you drive,

so all you will need to do is sign up for trips under different marshal and go along and enjoy yourself,

hope this explains it all , the procedures are due to go up soon for all to see, but a little slow due to the time of the year,

all marshal have put there thoughts and time in to the procedures, and have come out with the best solution to upgrades,

Thanks Offie ..

I will add few things ..

Just ask your self .. are you ready for the next level
( including higher driving scale, more driving challenges, some car modification, complete compulsory offroad gears & kill your fear) ??????????

The upgrade relay on the experiance you get from desert, either driving skills or offroad stuff you have is not enough, because you are keeping your self in one area with selected marshals.

put in your mind ..

It is not Your case because nothing personal
& it is not random because we have rules & instructures to follow
and Yes as the marshals feel that you have the ability to handle the next level, they will rise it to the Adminstrators, & then you will be upgraded ..

& don't forget ..

People in this club seeking to have fun & enjoyment, regardless of the upgrade & these other stuff which belong to club Authority.

Regards,

Dont worry buddy it took me two years to get upgraded from newbie to offroader.. And i overcame my fears of cresting.. Breaking my car.. And side cresting.. And bowling.. Etc. And i probably went to like 20 trips. The marshals really want you to be confident. Once you are.. The sky is the limit.

Very good point Akube - when I was a junior offroader it seemed to be taking too long for upgrade for me (I was driving for 7 months and like you had done 20 trips), however once I acheived Offroader it didn't take me so long to progress through the grades as I had been taught the basics well, and had plenty of opportunity to practise. Similarly, I organised and led about a dozen trips as an expert last year before getting the coveted " turquoise T-shirt", but the experience has made me a better marshal. It's better (especially for your car) to be TOO ready than not quite ready for an upgrade.

It's taken me almost 2 years to get upgraded to "pilot" though LOL ;)

Hi Martino :)

Upgrades are done in recognition to your level of offroading skills at different areas. The sands of Al Ain are quite different from those of Al Khatm, Car Museum is different from Sweihan, Razeen is something else and Liwa tops it all.:smiley10:

Members are encouraged to try different areas where their skills will be sharpened. It is just a matter of time that one becomes acquainted with different areas and his level automatically improves. :smiley2:

The procedure is that a Marshal will recommend upgrading a member and the quorum is that 4 other Marshals who have witnessed the member on their trips confirm that member is ready for the next level.

It is not done at random or when the Marshal feels like it, and certainly never done on how daredevil you are:smiley11:. Safety is of paramount importance, and we encourage safe driving practices both on and offroad.

Please join trips with different Marshals in different areas and INSHAALLAH you will be upgraded soon. I wish you Good luck Martino, happy offroading, and drive safely.

Excellent put Marina, Akube and Al Kurby.

Safety comes first, always. If you feel you are ready for a upgrade try to go with another marshal and you will quickly see that there is so much to learn from these high ranking offroaders. It took me also 6 months for my upgrade to Offroader level, but I only started to know my limits of my vehicle about a month ago. Now I am starting to experiment with my skills that I have learned so far.

So don't worry Martino you will get there. We are all here to learn something, even the Marshals are learning something new everyday. It is a proses that will never stop.

The only difference between you and a marshal is experience with confidence to do things safely.

Have fun and see you in the sands soon.

Is a record kept somewhere of which trips each driver has made, or is it up to the driver to communicate with the marshals as (s)he progresses?
