Forget the LR series ...too big n heavy and a pain on the wallet in terms of maintainance....get the Pathfined......wont break so much and easily fixed in or out of the dealership

Put the tyres down low enough, I'm sure the old Datsun would go fine

Hi Bro,

I bought a used Pathy (2004) model few months back and am quite happy with. I have had about 10-12 drives without any specific problems. the advice I got from experienced off-roaders while buying the car was to ensure that I buy the 3.5 litre model. This was sold somewhere between 2002 - 2004. The model before that was 3.5 lit, which has much lesser power and hence is not very suitable for off-road. The model from 2005 onwards has even higher power but the settings are not suitable for desert driving.

In your mail I notice that you are talking about buying the correct model (3.5 L). Please ensure you donot deviate from it any end up buying the 3.3 L model.

All the best. Cheers!

Thanks Alok. I will stick on pathy 2002-04 model 3.5L. which spec you have bought, GCC/US? did you filter your choice by the spec when you searched for the car?

See, I have the GCC specs. I am not very technical on cars and GCC Vs US specks were not a criterion for me while deciding. Only thing that I have heard is that GCC specs have better engine cooling mechanisms and stronger ACs to take care of higher temperatures in this part of the world. At the same time I also read somewhere in these forums that the US specs are actually higher in terms of vehicle body strength etc.

I guess you should consult some more knowledgeable friends who might be more educated on the subject.
