Sounds good....I am sure you can locate many interesting designs for do it yourself buggys on the net and translate them into a fine toy.

As sad as it is, there was an old sand rail frame down by my old office not too long ago. No engine or wheels, just a frame, but it has gone now. I am sure there are plenty around like Wasif said though, very interestign idea indeed PR. Spare spanners here if you need help! :D
