I don't know anything about Checkers, but I can tell you a safety flag is an excellent idea - not only does it allow drivers to see each other over small dunes, but I almost got squashed by a giant Hummer-like truck (the Al Dhabi - made in UAE for military use) in my topless and doorless Wrangler when my clutch line popped right after I crested a high dune.

The dude in the Al Dhabi came up behind me full steam, came over, and the guys words, in a lovely Dutch accent, were: "that flag just saved your life!"

Let me edit in pics while you run out and buy yourself a flag! LOL

This is Al Dhabi 8)

At the Extreme Desert Challenge in Al Wagan years ago, I came over a high dune, my clutch went flat, car stalled - I couldn't move.

Here's who was following me, trying to catch me - this is a HEAVY truck, btw, and it needs full speed to climb over a dune that tall...

Right in my tracks... luckily he sees my home-made flag in time!

Moral of the story - get yourself a flag.

As for me, I fixed the clutch line by replacing the split section of hose with a spare piece of see-through pipe, and went on to complete the challenge, even placing in the winning team 8) All's well that ends well; another lesson learned... now, got your flag yet? ;)

Great looking rig that Al Dhabi.
We do ensure that all members above junior offroad level have flags once upgraded as this is an essential safety tool for us, them, and any other adventurers that may be in the area. We like the carrefour special, a fishing rod and you country flag. Works wonders for under AED100. :D

What clever systems have you guys devised to attach the fishing pole to the vehicle?

(in fact, that's what I was using LOL a 6m fishing pole - broke it too fast, though)

Oh .....most of us just tape or jublee clip the pole to a set of suction cups they use to lift glass and then attach the suction cup to teh sides of the car.

Some of us have custom solutions on our cars that are rather iteresting to see.....the " shermin of the klub" has a fancy imported little flag pole that twinkles at night so that we always know where he is ....LOL

As wasif said, flag pole, zip ties/tape/jubi clips, glass suckers. Works wonders and is extremely cheap/effective.

Yes WA, we need to see him so we don't lose him in the night drives eh! :p
