GPS - Buyers Guide

Thu Mar 11, 2010 8:24 am

This thread is intended as a comprehensive GPS buyers giude.

Thre are so many different types available and this tends to confuse the buyers. I know we have several members here with a vast knowledge on this subject and I request them to share their knowledge and help put together a comprehensive buyers guide.

What does one need to look for in a GPS for offroading, what are the best choices, where are they available and for how much?

What makes the Garmin 276C the most popular offroading GPS, what does it cost and where is it available ?

The Garmin 276C is a marine and offroad unit. The housing effectively protects the unit from extreme weather conditions and this makes it a rugged unit. The ability to enter coordinates, record routes, save trails and the fairly large screen makes it a favourite for offroaders.

That's my input Wasif ;)

BTW, how about you making another thread - GPS - Seller's guide :D

In my lame humble opine the #1 feature/function to look for in a GPS for proper offroad usage would be "Track Logging". This allows you to download your track so you can create routes, build personal maps, save your track, etc...
