4WD or AWD is not what makes a car a capable off roader. What is required is the presence of gear reduction, low range basically.

Now the Prado is a AWD but has the option of Hi and Low so its a good offroader. In the case of the FJ the auto version is 4WD and the maual is AWD but both have hi and low range gear reduction and that is what makes them great off roaders.

So the Kia you ordered ghas a low range and diff locks so by the sound of it it will make quiet a cabable off roader.....let us know how it goes.

Will do --- think it will be tiny steps for me and the kia - I have done a little driving in mud and snow and baked hard mud trails in summer but no rocks or sand

First ting to remember to to deflate the tires down to 12 PSI and you will have a great time in the sands !

I used to ride a Trials Bike in the UK (too many years ago to mention.)

We used to run on about 6psi but had clamps within the rims to stop the tyre spinning. On one occassion I rode on the road straight after a trial without reinflating - all I can say is "leason learnt."
