So, I'm trying to undo a corroded nut on the positive battery terminal of a car that's been sitting all summer. The replacement battery and terminal are on standby until I can get the nut undone. What I've tried so far:
a) cleaning up the terminal with baking soda and water, then tapping with a hammer to loosen it before trying to undo it
b) pouring hot water over it and tapping it with a hammer before trying to undo it
c) spraying it with loads of WD-40, tapping it with a hammer and trying to undo it
My tools aren't quite right for the job, so I'm going to Ace to buy something a bit more effective than a shifting wrench BUT - is there anything else I can do? Any suggestions? Anybody?
Thanks
PS I tried to put up a picture of the offending nut, but for some reason the images aren't valid. Anyhoo - hopefully you get the picture
Heeeeeeelp!! :help:

Thanks for the brake oil tip Mohannad. I couldn't get it to work straightaway, but I put brake fluid on and I'm leaving it overnight to soak in - hopefully it comes undone in the morning. If not, it's back to Ace for a hacksaw... and if that doesn't work... workshop!!
Bolt cutters didn't work either... didn't open far enough... I think they were really wire cutters!!
Lesson from all of this? A half hour job never takes half an hour!

Hi Jen,
also, if you do go to ACE you should grab a tin of battery terminal cleaner and some lithium grease. The battery terminal may have some corrosion which you may not be able to see so the cleaner should free that up. You should then put the lithium grease (or vaseline) on the teminal post and clamp. This will help slow down any further corrosion and will also lubricate the post and clamp to avoid future stuicky situations.
