Fri Sep 24, 2010 10:25 pm

Hi offroaders,
As the title says I have purchased a landcruiser 200 diesel which is detuned to 232hp
The europe spec landcruiser get 280+HP and there are chips in their market to extract more HP
I want information from anyone who knows something about these chips
I dont want to order a chip designed for EURO VI car only to discover it wnt work on EURO III(gulf spec)

Thanks Alhurbi,
I did google it, And Yes there are a lot of companies making these chips BUT the landcruiser they get has different spec The ones in Europe are 281HP stock the one we get is 231HP .The one we get has adifferent emmission spec and has no diesel partical filter (PDF).
So this could mean the ecu are not the same

Why not speak to the dealership and see if they can re-map the computer (if it is a PCM model) and pull the extra ponies from the stable. Most of the time the de-powering is done by a dealer configured computer tune that will tell the engine to not produce as much power. See what they say, if not, then look for chips.
Going with an aftermarket chip on a de-tuned computer will not get you the extra horses you are looking for sorry! :D

Hi there, what year model LC and did you look up the VIN? (the chassis number, should be stamped into a metal plate in the engine bay) it will tell you where it was made, what specs, etc.

50HP difference is massive and I doubt it's only because of emissions.

You say 4.5 td - that's turbo-diesel, diesel, right? Because the older LC were only 4.2 if diesel... and no turbo... so is this the stock engine? Is it a new engine?

OK, after a little research LOOOL Toyota does indeed produce a 4.5L turbo-diesel - that's a brand-new engine, bud! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_VD_engine

It seems there are two versions: a single turbo, and a twin-turbo. And I think that probably is the difference - the 281HP specs you are reading for EU is prolly the twin-turbo engine, while you have the single-turbo.

Actually, Toyota spec sheet gives even less HP than you mentioned: Maximum power: Single turbo: 151 kW (202 hp) @ 3400 rpm, and Twin turbo: 195 kW (261 hp) at 3400 rpm

FYI, when you search for more info, your engine should be the 1VD-FTV.

EDIT: easy way to find out, is just to open the hood and look for the turbo-charger - one or two?

This is what the twin-turbo should look like: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... Engine.JPG (from wikipedia)
