BRILLIANT
You're too kind.

Got it back from Mehran tonight - transfer box in and working nicely and towbar fitted. All at a very attractive price, too. Added bonus: first meeting with a local group member (Jane) and it was a pleasure to make your acquaintance.

On-road manners are greatly improved thanks to the availability of 2WD. It's much smoother now that it's not driving all that transmission drag from the faulty viscous coupling. Now we'll see how it goes off-road on friday.

Excellent, you are in the same boat I was in four years ago. I loved every second of it, btu sadly didn't catalogue it this much, just my lift installation. You may have seen the build thread on jeepforum?
Anyway, great work mate, and glad to see somebody rescuing another legend, you will love the 2WD option. Did you go for the 231 or 242 t-case? (Sorry if I missed that, I was skimming!)

Keep it up mate, and good luck! :D

That's a good question. I assumed NP242 as I had forgotten about the 231. I'll have to have a look underneath tomorrow :)

It's most likely a 242 as that is a more straight forward swap than the 231 is, otherwise you have to mess around with the planetary gears apparently, and change the output shaft!
You know what, you should've said you need these parts, I have a full set of front ball joints, CV boots, wheel hubs, and a fuel pump at home that I will be sending up to the scrap yard with the jeep, all are brand new and sent in from rock auto (except the hubs, they are used, but good trial spares!)

Let me know if you want them and they are yours mate! :D

Tony - most of the parts were ordered before my membership of the group was approved, so I couldn't wait (it took about 3 weeks for my account to be activated!). Any spare parts that you have available would be gratefully received - let me know a good time to come up and collect them :) Thanks

No worries mate, I'll give you a shout once I have everything out/off of it. I should have it all done by the weekend so you can come over any time after the long weekend if you like. Let me know what you're willing to pay and I will gladly agree to a reasonable offer! :D

Richard, very nice to meet you, as well! It,s pretty hard to get in or out of Mehran,s place without encountering at least ONE of the Al Ain club members. :-) Have a great day on Friday! I predict it,ll be great. I hope your family gets equally hooked!

Tony... my mechanical education continues: "planetary gears"? Really?? Do they have to align with Mars? ;-)
