Tires

Tue Feb 23, 2010 6:16 pm

Hello you lot, I got a question or two about tire dealers.

I have been looking for some new tires for the bulldog and have boiled it down to 3 types.

1 BFG AT
2 BFG MT (KM 2 if possible)
3 Goodyear Wrangler MT (Kevlars if possible)

The thing is, I know that the BFG AT's are available in many places so that is not an issue. But I have been told that it will be difficult to find the MT's as they are pretty much illegal as insurance companies won't cover you if you have an accident with these on your rig.
Does anybody know where I can get the MT's from, I would preffer the Goodyears but would still be very happy with the BFG's too.

Cheers

Tony :D

i know that BF dealer is alfutaim why dnt you give them a visit and check wether they have it in stock and i f not look for the possibilities of ordering them. why dont you check nito dune grappler they r pretty good, they have been on my car for over one year and their preformanmce in the sand is awsome , i like them. regarding the legal issue, you can never know , because there is no direct law or clear statment prove they r illegal unless it is written on the insurance contract, u can check with your insurance company
good luck :)

Happy birthday E. I checked with Al futtaim, and it was them who told me they don't import them due to legal reasons.
I may go for the Dune Grapplers but I want to do some rock crawling and am not sure how they will be over rocks, wil they be strong enough for rock abuse or not?
Looks like either the BFG AT's or a trip to Sharjah.

BFG MT's are "illegal"? But balloon tires are? That is about as crazy as no steel bumpers. I do wonder at times where all of this silliness comes from. I could be mistaken but I think Badri had the MT's.

Yeah I am sure it is just a make-it-up as you go type rule as Phantom said. I will check with Badri, I am going to call up there on Sunday or Monday so I will check it out. If not, it looks like a trip to Sharjah for a mooch around.

Ah well.

I agree with you Eric, maybe the guy doesn't know what he's talking about. How can MT's be illegal......balloons should actually be illegal for lack of grip and thus compromising safety.

On the other hand, take a look at Pirelli Scorpios, Michellin LTX or alternatively, Cooper STT's MT. They are readily available ;)

Where can I find the Coopers, and for what price? I am a little concerned with the cooper noise though as I am using the ZJ for my daily driver.

Go to Sharjah....I was offered a slightly used set of Cooper ATR's for AED 800. A new STT is around 500.

National Tyres in Mussaffah have size 31 and below.

Regarding the noise level, yes, they are somewhat noisy, but you can drown that noise with good music :D

A new MT STT size 33, similar to the ones I have, cost AED850 a piece
