Towbar for Pajero

Sun Feb 14, 2010 6:37 pm

Guys, those on tintin's bulldog run of 30/1/2010 will remember what the Pajero rear bumper looks like after playing in the sand. The rear bumper shovelled sand and opened outwards.

I am wondering if a towbar would take care of the problem. Or will it reduce the clearance? Any one aware of such issues or can suggest where I can get such a towbar or make enqueries about it please advise.

I can't wait till I get a solution that will let me get back on the sands... either that or I wait till summer to fix the broken bumper.

Hi I had the same problem with my Pajero... It is a commom problem with Pajero. I Haven't found many solutions to this though

I got my car fitted with a towbar exactly like your thoughts. I haven't done a great deal of sand driving after that though. However, It has helped for sure. If you like you could give me a call and see my car to have an idea about the tow bar. BTW I got it fixed at the agency in Abu Dhabi

I think a better idea would be to fix some kind of a plate on the bar under the car (just behind the bumper) to avoid sand from getting to the bumper. Its just that, that part of the bumper (silver part) is too weak and held by very weak brackets. Probably will try to do that on a friend's car and will let you know how it goes.

You could also read or contact someone who has made some modifications to his bumper on another forum.. but I am not convinced it would stop shoveling the sand.. but would definitely make it more rigid.

Vivian, thanks for your suggestion.A similar one was proposed by Mebar, the workshop in Dubai which does offroad vehicle mods.

When I was talking to the Mitsubishi service centre manager for a solution to my issue, he said that installing a towbar may reduce the clearance and if the towbar gets hit, it could damage the vehicle more than just than just opening the bumper.

There is a guy in the bodyshop there who said a friend of his could do the modification similar to what you suggest. Let's see how it goes.
