Videoing Offroad

Sun Oct 10, 2010 12:59 pm

I noticed some of our members enjoy taking videos of their adventures, so I wanted to share some really cool equipment: http://www.vio-pov.com/

I used their equipment on the Around UAE Off-Road adventure, where me and my two brothers rode just over 1,000km of continuous off-road on quads, and they are perfect for recording extreme sports.

Here is a youtube clip my brother put together> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HdS11AbsrM so you can see the general quality. We made a 90-minute DVD from the footage, too.

I have two VIO POV.1's and a GoPro HD that I use for all of my video projects. I also use Adobe Premiere and Cyberlink Power Director for my editing tools.

I also have over 50GB of video to process...yeah, I hear you Wasif....

Nice set-up! 8)

One way to reduce the amount of editing is to use the tagging function - on the POV, though I suppose other devices have a similar function - basically, it's recording all the time, but if something you think is worthwhile happens, you can tag it. So when you go to edit, you pull up all the tagged segments and leave out all the rest. It's kind of like editing on the go and it really cuts down on time. I'd say for editing an average drive of 3 hours, which you want to edit down to 10 mins, it'll be done in 5-10 minutes total because you already got the exciting parts right there for you to choose from for your final edited piece.

Thanks. The GoPro doesn't have a tagging feature or a remote control ability which would make it completely boss. I have used the tagging feature only a few times on the POV but I prefer not to use it. It does make editing quicker but then I would not take days to edit my videos and not have this fabulous back log! :smiley2: I like to watch all of the raw video so that I can watch for my mistakes and use that to help improve myself. I wish my POV have HD capability.

Right now I am experimenting with various mounting positions to watch different aspects like my suspension in action which is cool to watch. :smiley10:
