LoL man, you got the FJ at time it was good option, but seems that the problem of visibility keep you away from the changes out side hahahahaha
Jeep and xterra had many changes, you are talking about old models.

PR wrote:Yes, the FJ diff-lock is a good thing the other two don't have. A-Trac applies brakes to stop the wheels spinning so I don't like it much and prefer it off, and it only works in LO, right?

Thing about leaf springs is they can be as smooth as coils when set with the right weight, but they just can't allow for the same amount of wheel travel by design. So on say a washboard track they can be perfect, but when going over something tall, maybe cresting, they will hang up off the ground and then slam down, while the coils can drop the wheel and keep traction. Mind you, it's no big deal - my ex-YJ had coils on all fours and it was a hoot to drive!

Wasif, when was the last time you hosed down the interior with water, man??? You got stuck with the tide coming in? ;) Try compressed air, rather! LOL

You know one thing, the concept of an off-roading hang-out at the dealer's is pure marketing genius. I'd make a special "hospitality corner" just for them. Basically, throw some sand in a corner!! LOOOOOOL
Looool. PR, your posts are as interesting as your weekend drive write ups. If you are back from croatia, I would like to know if you are planning a trip to Oman. Would love to join you.

Thanks buddy - everybody has their gifts, all different and all equally important. For me, it just happens when I write.

Oman is a great destination, but it needs a long stretch of days, so Eid is probably the best time. These past few years I've really been having really awesome trips because I take more time. No more drive 10 hours, set up camp, then next day drive 10 more hours back!!! LOL Unfortunately, it seems this Eid has been taken over by family :( so no happy 4x4 PR... but blessed with wonderful family, al hamdullilah.

So next chance is over Christmas time... or depends on how many days we get for National Day! 8)

Lies! My off-road model has a diff-lock, bilstein shocks, a small half-inch lift and bigger tyres :p roud:

But yeah, the regular model doesn't.

I haven't driven the FJ, and neither have I taken my wrangler offroad.
i used to drive a Mazda cx9 and when I changed to the wrangler I noticed that the ride was "bumpier", I'm thinking that's probably because it's a SWB car.
if your thinking about the jeep.. I would suggest the 4 door (no idea how they fare in the sand), you have more room for luggage and passengers

Ah, nice! Good to know! That info can be very important to who is deciding which model to get!!

So, is it rear diff-lock or central?

Half inch lift? Because it has different suspension parts?

And what are the tyre sizes?

Dealer's website doesn't show these differences... :|

Rear diff-lock. Not entirely sure if the half-inch lift is needed because of the shocks, but I believe so. Tyres are BFG Rugged Trails, P265/75R16s.

The shocks are branded as Nissan Bilstein, so they're probably not as good as proper off-the-rack Bilsteins, but they are better than the regular Nissan ones. The diff-lock is definitely the business - and has come in very handy on a couple of occasions which my LSD-only Wrangler wouldn't have got out of.

Yup, diff lock is a real plus for a 4x4. And an extra half-inch actually makes a big difference.

You'd think the dealer would want to advertise this!!! That brings the XTerra right back in as one of the top choices for an off-roader.
