Khasab to Ras Al Khaimah via the inland route

Sat Dec 07, 2013 9:02 am

[h=5]Hi there, I'm after a little advice please...I've just recently "signed up" and am planning a trip from Dubai to Khasab. Planning to go up via the coast road, but wondered if it is possible to return via the inland route and exit the UAE/OMAN border inland from Ras Al Khaimah?[/h]
Any advice would be appreciated...thanks

I heard there was some inland road up over the mountains that led to a military post on the Eastern side maybe but it was closed to enhance security and therefore Khaled's answer "No", to my knowledge is correct - from the border at Tibat to Khasab is about 45kms on twisty coast road, a very welcome change to the boring 3 laners we use more often.

... but only if you catch the right guard on the right day.

Thanks for all the replies - we also checked it out for ourselves on the way up via RAK. Drove inland to the border and enquired at the UAE Military Post at the border, they were all very nice, but as previously mentioned, the answer was "NO", mainly because there is no passport/immigration office there. However the road was well used and obviously sees quite a bit of traffic....

Sorry to Hijack, but is it the same subject, but for the other way round, I mean:

Head towards Dibba (apparently, if an expat can produce proof of a hotel booking, they will be allowed entry to Dibba), stay the night in the hotel, then head up towards Khasab and enter the UAE thru RAK. Anyone know if this is possible??

i dont think there is a problem here Lee
last time they refused to let us pass since we were not allowed to cross the two possible routes
first point was RAK boarders and its tottaly not allowed to anyone to cross unless you own a farm in that area or UAE local whoes PP issued from RAK - eveb AD PP wont make to thru

second point, were towards dibba which they claimed that its for farm owners only also
so logically if its the otherway around , there shouldt be any problem

let me know if you are willing to go , i may join and take the risk with you :)

I'd be up for a bit of that too as I've never done Mussandam. Every time I plan it, something always crops up.
