Off Road Insurance

Tue Jan 18, 2011 12:30 pm

Guys and Ladies.

I am aware we all love to go out and enjoy ourselves in the sands but how many of us actually have off road insurance to cover any unfortunate event that might happen. This is one of the most important requirments along with the other equipment we require you to have.

You might have full comprehensive insurance on your cars but you need to go back to your insurer and check if off road usage is covered too for that extra piece of mind. It is essential for all who do trips to ensure that they have off road cover on their cars. Even the best of drivers will make a mistake at some point and without off road cover your insurer will not cover any accidents that happen in the desert.

There are only three major companies in the UAE that offer full off road cover. They are as below.

1. AXA Gulf – 800 4845 Toll Free and 02 495 7979 AUH / 04 324 3434 DXB.
http://www.axa-gulf.com/

2. RSA – 800 772 Toll Free – 02 651 7925 AUH / 04 302 9800 DXB
https://www.rsagroup.ae/contactus.asp

3. Arab Orient – 02 676 3222 AUH / 04 295 3425 DXB
http://www.insuranceuae.com/

Please note that there are no others in the country who offer full off road protection. I talk from experience and from actually checking with all insurers in UAE. Some claim to offer off road but will hassle you when it coes time to pay out.

Companies like Noor Takaful also do off road cover but it is limited to off road usage on unpaved roads / tracks only to and from a farm or place of work. If you have this kind of insurance they will also not cover any off roading accidents.

Now the policies from RSA and AXA will be a bit higher than others but it’s worth the piece of mind they bring. If you are a good driver with a good no claim history you will get a great price from them. Also for a little more they include hire car so that if your car is in the shop you get a replacement. The cost of adding this cover is negligible compared to what it would cost to hire a car for a few days. Much recommended.

Buying, claiming and renewing can all be done online or thru email with all these companies and they will include Oman cover also in your policy.

The services provided by all three companies are exceptional. I have personally dealt with all the three and filing claims and settlements has always been fast and fair.

So please check you current insurance and see if it covers off road pleasure driving. If not make a not of it and when comes time to renew move to one of the above listed companies. Have fun and be covered.

I have personally had a few bad incidents in the desert but since I was always covered it didn’t cost me much and the car was fixed once and replaced at one point too.

Please take this seriously as one never knows what will happen and if the worst happens you will always be able to recover and move on with the right insurance.

Please note this is to help our members make the right choices. I have no vested interestes in any of these companies

Guys - I would choose one of the others rather than AXA. They put my 2006 TJ to be repaired at a backstreet garage in Al Ain (after our accident which was NOT our fault in any way), and the repair was not good and took 8 weeks to get it even roadworthy. They would not put out one of their engineers to look at it, even though I had rejected the repair 2 and 3 times! In fact I sold the car 9 weeks after the accident as it was never the same again. Then at first AXA refused to refund the unused 9 month's insurance premium since we had a claim - which was totally unfair, as they should have recovered all the accident costs from the other driver's insurers. They have given me a refund eventually, but we had to fight for it. So the FJ is due insurance in 2 week's time, it's going to be with RSA, much the same price (5k with agency repairs) but I hear good things from Offie about their service. I would also recommend Guardian Insurance Brokers in Abu Dhabi as they were very helpful and supportive. http://www.gib-uae.com/

Rsa is a great company, we have been with them a few years now and not much problems,

to cancel a policy and get i refund is about the same as most places, if you have a claim you don't get it,

if car is nearly 3 years old it is not agency [not sure if you can ask for it] if this is your first time with them it can be a little harder to get full comp insurance, if car over 5 years,
i have the number to the guy at guardian brokers and it only takes a call and he will do his best to get you what you require,

as for out of agency repairs, well like most places, but if you are not happy you only need to call and the engineer gets back to you and then will met up with you and access the problem,

in a way it is up to each and there own to who they like or dislike, we all have different experiences, and each company is much like thee other, it is up to you to make sure the repairs are up to standard, and to check up, dont always relay on the insurance company,

Well I tried with Arab Orient and they, liek most, are not willing to offer offroad insurance for cars that are over 10 years. They will only offer third party liability cover which is what I have now for 200AED less than what they offer. I guess it is down to the vehicle age more than anything as I have 4 years UAE no claims and another 2 on top of that in the UK.

I would go with another but I doubt I would get fully comp and offroad for a decent price for the ZJ so I will just take the risk I guess! Thanks though WA! :D

Guys....please keep in mind that when I am talking about Off road insurance it applies to cars less than 8 to 10 year old. Nobody anywhere in the world will offer full comp or even off road insurance for cars this old.

Marina I understand you had a problem with AXA but do keep in mind that your car was nor covered for agency repairs. Its a shame that their authorised "backstreet" garage messed it up but the company on the whole is good. Every once in a while everyone has a problem.

AXA is the only company where everything from starting a claim to finish can be done on the phone. Their website offers online quotes as does RSA so people who are running out of insurance can get online quotes for comparison. These will be a bit high and you will have to negotiate with teh company. If you have a no claim certificate from your last insurer it gets you a much better premium.

Both RSA and AXA are on par with international insurers in terms of quality of service. With RSA you need to either go to their office or email thme the documents to file a claim. This is true for Arab Orient too.

Salah.

I suggest you call all three of them and get quotes for comparison and go with who offers you the best price. I am sure it will be Arab Orient. But keep in mind they don't offer a hire car rental option as the other two.

Calim processing with all there is speedy and payouts if necessary are also in reasonable time.

I have always got back more than what I paid for my insurance every year LOL...First year with AXA the premium for my new 2008 FJ was 7.5K and they paid out 18K for the fender issue I had. Needless to say teh next year premium went thru the roof prompting the move to RSA.

With RSA my second years premium on the 08 FJ was 6.0 K and a few months after the policy started the car was totalled and RSA paid up the full insured value without any issues and I went out and got a new FJ. Needless to day again they didn't entertain my request for new insurance so on to Arab Orient.

I insured my 2010 FJ with Arab Orient for 5.5 K. Since they are a part of Al Futtaim they offer something unique for Toyota products. Its called "Gap" insurance. For a fixed amount, AED 3850, additional over the regular insurance you buy this insurance that covers the "gap" between teh price of a new FJ and your current car if it is totalled in the first five years of ownership.

So with Gap insurance if heavens forbid I totall my car in the third year of ownership Arab Orient will pay the depreciated value and the Gap insurance will cover the difference in price between the depreciated value of your car and the new car. Win Win all the way.

One more thing to consider is that AXA and RSA will pay out the full insured value if you totall your car off road by yourself. Arab Orient will only pay 80 % of insured value if it was your mistake and 100 % if it was due to someone elses mistake.

Ali...I suggest you call all three and take a quote from them and then go with the one who is offering the lowest.

By comparison. AXA and RSA have the same services and Arab Orient is a bit slowere thats all.
