Hi Guys,

I'm new to the forum. Came across it while doing some research.

I was after some advice on Fj Cruisers. I am looking to purchase one next week but I'm torn between which model.

I considering the manual as it's more fun to drive, but it's very basic and most of my driving is done in Dubai on roads, so would this novelty of fun ware off? How is the resale on the basic manual too?

Top of the range is just within reach of my budget, but would mean I couldn't do any modifications like tyres, etc any time soon.

What are thoughts on the mid range which is automatic? I would be left with some cash to make some modifications too.

My off-road skills are nothing special, and i would plan to hit the dessert or hatta twice in a month.

Hi Jonny,

The FJ is an amazing car, on the road and offroad. The car holds its value very well, especially the auto. Since you will mostly used it as daily use, I would prefer an auto. As far as modifications go, the first thing you can do is upgrade to proper All Terrain Offroad tyres and stick to the prescribed sizes below the 285 width. Installing larger tyres can reduce the car's performance, especially offroad. I for one would leave it stock, because I have seen some of our members who have driven offroad admirably well in stock FJ.

the manule gear 6 speed only 2012 and 2013 at standerd FJ .. no airbag no camira
the atuo gear is 5 speed

Thanks for the advice marshall. I will most likely get the Auto Mid Range. As far as modifications for, tyres I will definitely change and other than that I had considered a "3 lift kit but nothing more, as it will make the warranty invalid.

I was just doing some googling about the FJ, and I came across this article.
Looks possible that the FJ will live on in Oz, but not in the US... like the Nissan Patrol.
May still be available from Japan after 2014.

Get the mid range auto , throw on a set of Pirelli 275/70/16 , forget a three inch lift, get a two inch Icon Stage one from AEV or Mebar in Dubai and that's it.

For a little more pepp drop in a AFE dry hi flow filter element in the stock air filter box and slap on a TRD Cat back, khalas all set.

Jonny. Congratulations on your choice with the FJ. A really good vehicle for on road and Offroad requirements.

My two cents, keep it stock. The stock tyres wear out soon so change them in about 20k Kms by which time you will have enough moola to go for Yokohamas or Pirelli scorpions.

Depending on the amount of Offroad driving you are thinking of suggest you go for cooper HTS.

Go for the option that gives you ATrac and Rear diff lock. These are very handy in the sand. Don't worry on lifting right away as you need to learn the way the FJ handles and best way to learn is when the vehicle is stock. Join us in today's drive.
