Summer safety

:smiley2:Just a quick reminder to all :smiley2:

We all know the importance of keeping our vehicles well maintained (oil, water, tyres, air filter etc) to survive the rigours of off-roading - especially in the summer months when the heat can take it's toll on the cars.
But please don't forget yourselves - the driver!
Going out into the desert in the summer months is just as exacting on the drivers and passengers.

[list]Please make sure YOU and your passengers are fit enough for the trip.
If you are feeling unwell or if anything is only slightly aching or hurting before the trip, it is likely to be a lot worse at the end of the trip or cause you to not enjoy the trip - and we don't want that!:smiley2:

Water, water, and more water - drink constantly - little and often to keep yourself hydrated - remind your passengers too!

Take rehydrating drinks or buy the rehydrating tablets/sachets from pharmacies. Heat exhaustion can set in quickly with no warning - be prepared!

The summer months are great for off-roading but hard on the body mentally and physically - please don't take risks.

Yous keep in mind that in Summer if your lips are parched then you are already dehydrated !!

also the one thing not mentioned is what to do if you are dehydrated !!
must people think just to drink more, but no the best way is to

get a cloth or hat and put it in the cold water and put on your head, or pour the water over your head,
this is quick at getting you back on your feet,

sprite, lemonade are a good choice on hot days, NOT THE SPORT DRINKS or ORANGE JUICE,

Some useful links related to heat exhaustion:

The golden rule is simple:
- if you feel unwell before a trip - consider if you will be able to enjoy it in the summer heat. There is no shame in letting the trip leader know that you can't make it. Better to do that than to fall ill during the trip. I've cancelled going on trips because lil nav or myself haven't been at 100%.
- Don't push yourself too much in this weather- it will (and does) take it out of you.
- Happy off-roading everyone!
