I just had a Diablo Predator Dyno Tune done on my '09 JK at Extreme tonight, Lee stopped by to provide some moral support - cheers mate!
I am running all of the poor man's power mods: a K&N CAI with throttle body spacer, Ripp Long Tube Headers and a Gibson Dual Port Exhaust. Yes, it is louder now. :smiley3:
Abdulla is CMR Qualified and did some research before we started. We settled on a setting that gave us 182 RWHP and 224 Ft/lbs of Torque on the Dyno with an air intake temperature of 95F. My seat-o-pants meter really notices the change on the tarmac. We are going to run this setting until we get cooler weather in about 2 months and then see if we can push for 190. My JK is Abdulla's first 3.8l and he was surprised at what we got. The 3.8l is a weakling at best but I think we have started to wake it up.
Of note all of my RPM lag issues with the engine are now gone since removing the Hypertech Tuning and loading the standard Diablo Performance Tune a week ago. I really am impressed with the Diablo. Abdulla has been a huge help and it will be hard to stay out of his shop - its a fun house!

Hi Eric,
Want to ask you what the Diablo is exactly and what it does? coz ive been hearing it mentioned hear and there. And a couple of people have been telling me to install it but i have no clue what it does exactly. I have a 2010 Jeep Wrangler Sahara jk with k&n filter and i think MBRP cat back exhaust system (came with tornado 2 kit) Youre advice would be greatly appreciated about it.

The Diablo is known to open ALL PARAMETERS to allow reprogramming the original CPU installed by the car manufacturer. The question I may ask in the long run is IS IT SAFE? On the other hand, the hypertech and superchip are known to open only limited parameters that are deemed safe for reprogramming.

Mabrook Eric .. can't wait to see the performance of the blue beast .. Diablo eh?! u are going extreme my friend .. I've seen what that chip does to JKs .. install wings and u'll be flying!

As Nasser said the Diablo products allows the CMR Qualified tuner to program pretty much every parameter in the ECU. The Hypertech and Superchip are very limited in what can be adjusted by the end user, the Diablo has the same and a couple other parameters for the end user but its what the CMR Tuner can do that is magic. They cost nearly about the same but the Diablo is by far the better product in my opine. You can not go wrong with it. I noticed a difference right away with the Diablo basic performance program installed versus the Hypertech.

The main difference between the Diablo and the Hypertech/Superchip/Jet performance chips and tuners is the CPU can learn over them and reset itself if it is not changed frequently. This is not such a bad thing for the engine, but makes it a waste of money in the long run. Most CPU's are set to parameters as Nasser said and only adjusting some parameters wil either cause the computer to learn this and reset or wil lcause malfunctions in some areas. We all know the JK's have their computer issues anyway, why add to them. The Diablo opens EVEYTHING so the computer has a hard time adjusting so it cannot reset or relearn its stock properties! (As far as I know anyway).
Mabrook though Eric, can't wait to hear it coming over a dune! VERY COOL!!!

You are correct about ECU learning. We made several runs on the Dyno without touching the "final" tune programming and you actually could see the ECU making adjustments to its "trim". These adjustments were actually raising the HP and Torque performance. The nice part of the Dyno Tune with the Diablo was that we could look at every parameter and note what the ECU was doing. Another nice things was that there was zero Knock which means there is room for growth in the current tune parameters.
Scavenger - where did you get your MBRP at? And how do you like it?

So all that playing around got you what 190 RWBHP ??????

Al Kurby asks a good question. I think where people question re-programming the parameters is the concern with engine longevity - the thinking goes that the super-smart engineers of the big car corporations know best and have spent millions on all sorts of tests, so how can "qualified" Abdullah do a better job in his garage in Musaffah?
Personally, I will admit that probably the engine components will wear faster under the higher stress, but the gains can be considerable, and so does it matter to you if an engine that is built to run 200,000km comfortably, and then double, triple that with replacement parts, runs only 150,000km but at much higher outputs?
The fact is that the big car companies build for the middle path, aiming for a balance between petrol consumption (and increasingly emissions) and power output, so the factory settings are normally pretty tame.
Just make sure you are the first owner playing with ECU settings, and not the second owner! LOL

It is not recommend it to play with the Ecu if u. Got stock engine as prnsaid it will tear up faster. So usually in most cases people modify ecru or replace it with another one after modifying the new engine to be aligned with the new setup.
