They provide an air-conditioned space to work, the tools, and a mechanic on hand if you need some help. Plus they say they have most repair manuals available.

Cool idea this, you are right PR there should be something like this in AD, Al Ain for 4x4 maybe in conjuction with offroad desert recovery service as well.... mmmmmmm I feel an idea hatching...

I thought about the DIY garage a while ago but forgot about this. Would be a great idea though. In fact, I am sure me and PR discussed this on the other club. I may be wrong though!

Yes, it is an old idea, and discussed on several forums and in fact some members did take it to reality, but kind of lost the DIY in favour for a more traditional money-making business model LOOOL I don't mind as ideas are free and I'm always happy to give my opinion.

Truth of the matter is that one can make a lot more money (over)charging young people who see a connection between the car they drive and their manhood. Even better when it's a wealthy Daddy who's paying, too. So there's really a lot of money to be made there. We're talking income of 200k a month and aiming for more. And you can always cut down on expenses by hiring people with no skills and making them work squatting on the floor, too...

I think bottom line is it's very hard to not go crooked if you are the one quoting price for repairs/mods you think are needed, to a customer who doesn't have a clue nor the inclination to do a bit of research, and a full wallet of easy-come money. It's like dentists who recommend children get braces to set their teeth... of course they do! I would too recommend anything that pushes up my income!!! If a teacher got paid by the amount of homework s/he gave, guess what, students would be writing entire books at home! LOL And if the Police were paid according to how many fines they issued, we'd see a lot fewer bad drivers on the road... it's human nature, sadly.

As a business model, though, a DYI, chill-out garage for enthusiast mechanics would struggle to make ends meet. Rent is a fixed cost with no conscience or remorse. However, coupled with a deep desert recovery operation, maybe also accepting regular mechanic jobs from customers who don't want to do it themselves, maybe with a coffee shop attached (like, you can sip your capuccinos while watching the work going into your car through a large glass window 8) ) and of course selling mods and accessories or even organizing group buys with the power of numbers, and perhaps a few more income-enhancing schemes (honest schemes - ones that exchange true value for money... ) then I guess you'd need to crunch numbers and balance certain costs with potential income.

So did anything come of this Yehia? I was thinking it would/may be a better idea to have a garage that is dedicated to 4x4 mods and have maybe one or two bays that are to be held open for public use, under the supervision/assistance of a mechanic.

I will be desperate for somethign like this soon as I will be leaving my old flat and moving into a high rise with no drive way/parking space for me to work in!!!
