First things first:

NOTE: TC can be disabled by operating the brake pedal ten times within ten seconds, when
the ignition is turned on. TC will be re-activated when the ignition is turned off then on again.

Second thing: "2.4 litre four-cylinder diesel unit also used in the highly successful Ford Transit" WTF???

Apparently 122HP... very narrow wheels... acceleration like a ... well, Ford Transit LOOOL but I did a quick run in the dunes behind my house, and not bad as long as you anticipate the terrain... we'll see over the weekend...

Oh my lord, that is too funny. Next thing they will be putting fiat uno engines in wranglers!!! I guess it is the overall package though eh? High RPMs and gobfulls of diesel torque will get you through. And if not, you can open a furniture delivery service with it and be done!!!

Had a 2003 EXECUTIVE from dec 03 to jan 07, sold it for a new style one (BIG mistake) and then sold it 9 months later when I got rid of my company.

And then, I got my son to buy me an 01 transit to use when we were home in Scotland in April/May, called it the "tinkmobile", quite good acceleration, you needed to go fast so none of your friends would see you in it! He sold it at a profit, so a guy who had his own plant business. So I guess the orange flashing light on the roof and the towbar would have come in handy!

Nice shot you placed. It is the 110CC, not easy to find. Like all Defenders it gives you a lot of room for making YOUR truck out of it (sounds writing about a Wrangler ). And here we are:

Of course, a 2,4l engine does not promise a lot even Ford Diesel engines have quite a history in Landrovers (mostly used before the BMW episode). The big advantage is the variety of tuning options available on the market (at least in Europe) for this engine, what was limited by LR to the 122HP, giving you easily >180HP in an instant.

One more: When the Defender hit the market in Europe with this engine the testers admitted that this is the first Defender reaching 160km/h onroad and not only in free falling (they did not say anything about the time needed )

Paolo, I have to say I am a bit jealous that you could test this....... If you need a 2nd opinion on driving, let me know.

In fact, post-testdrive, I am amazed at how well the Transit engine fits the Defender - it's perfect!

It does drive like a Transit van on road, but that's actually an improvement LOL you keep up with traffic easily, true you don't have much left over to pass traffic, but if you drive it like a high 4x4 that should not worry you one bit. I cruised Dubai-Al Ain-Abu Dhabi-Al Ain-Dubai and 130kph does it nicely.

In the sands it really comes into its own - no spinning of wheels or drifting or anything like that, but it drives through sand completely effortlessly. It's like the Defender doesn't realize you're plowing through deep sand! And it climbs very nicely, too!!! (off-camber is scary, though, and side-sloping is not a happy thing). It will drive over medium dunes fully relaxed, all day.

Besides the good torque from the diesel engine, the choice of tyres is genius: 235/85R16!!! The 85 height of the sidewall is key and it allows a beautiful deflated footprint - much much thousand times better than the wider 265/65R16s because the narrower tyre has less rolling resistance, yet the higher sidewall makes the footprint larger in size... very good choice of tyres.
