Self-recovery Practice

I read from the grading structure that Senior Offroaders and above should be able to self-recover... are you guys sure about this? There are some pretty advanced skills required to be able to diagnose and effect a self-recovery without collapsing with exhaustion or burning out the clutch/transmission. Mostly we are used to a buddy throwing us a tow rope and not recovering independently...

I would be very interested in practicing self-recovery techniques, and also sharing and receiving advice with other members - anybody want to join me for a "self-recovery practice session"?

We can focus on:

stuck on the flat
stuck in a bowl
side-stuck
crested

I know a fair bit of techniques and do's and don'ts, and I'm sure everyone has their own techniques, so if we put them together we all come out a bit richer! 8)

On our scouting trip I was aware that I was in a bit of a stuck situation, and wasif shouts in a worried tone "Marina stay right there...". Was a bit wierd, I didn't think I was in any danger! And then he followed it with "I need to get my camera!". Managed to drive out with difflock after Wasif had his photo session lol!

Self recovery practice is fun. i have done many a round in Al Khatim doing just that. My best stuck was a high center where both axles where near free floating and the car perfectly balanced. Too bad my camera was fogged up as the image is not so nice but 10 minutes with a shovel and I was off and running. No need for the winch and anchor. Haven't need the air bag yet to lift me out of any nasty softies ala musnet. Practice makes perfect.

Got no diff locks, no A-track, none of these funny gadgets yuo all bang on about, but I am more than willing to get stuck with the best of them! In fact, I think Wasif has taught me a thing or two about getting stuck with ease.
