Exhaust noise and "Hello" from a newbie.

Morning all, hope everyone had a great Christmas and NYE. I'm living Abu Dhabi and have just joined the Jeep Wrangler posse (1995 YJ), but already having a few problems so I need some advice please.

I put my Jeep in to get it's ticket only to be told it has failed on the front bumper (not the original, even though it's Jeep made), missing a wing mirror (should have seen that one coming) and the only three months old exhaust is too noisy.

I'm trying to the end plastic parts for the bumper from Icon in Dubai and the wing mirror, but not sure what to do about the noisy exhaust, I have worked out that I need to have another muffler or a resonator put on. I went to Fox Exhausts in Dubai and was quoted 2,800 dhs for silencer which they said they would have to make. I don't really want to have to pay that so does anyone have and idea where I should go, is it possible to buy second hand parts? Also with me buy the end plastic parts for the front bumper is that going to be enough for it to pass the inspection?

Thanks and Happy New Year!

Gus

Hi Gus, and welcome to the club.

For the exhaust you can go to any of the exhaust shops in Musaffah and ask them if you can loan a muffler for the time being. You will most likely have to give them some mullah for the inconvenience but it will/should get you through inspection.
For the plastic/rubber parts for the bumper and wing mirror you can do the same with the scrap yard, Al Qaswari, and ask them to loan you a bumper for inspection. They are good guys up there and will give you what you need for a small fee also.

Directions to Al Qaswari are as follows.

Musaffah highway
1st overpass/bridge go straight under
Adnoc appears on your right, then take the next exit after the Adnoc to Musaffah industrial estate
Go straight at the roundabout then take the 1st right and go straight
2nd left, the shop is right at the end of the road. Tell the guys Tony with the big Grand Cherokee sent you.

They are closed between 12 and 2 in the afternoon and close for the day at around 6pm.

Good luck

Hi Gus

I have an original front bumber (97 TJ)with the plasic end bits you can "rent" to get your vehicle thru the test. Rent Payment is to join us on the sand for a number of trips. If you just require the plastic ends then it would be even easier. I kept both the original bumpers to get my Jeep thru inspection every year.

For the exhaust : The previous owner most probly removed one of the siliencers for extra power or sound. I have heard of stuffing steel wool into the rear silencer to reduce sound but it can be one hell of a job removing all the crud afterwards. I would recommend inserting a 2nd silencer into the exhaust system.

Wing mirror, I would go with Tintin sugestion. Your land mark is the pink & white building. The Jeep scrap yard is on its " Backside"

Thanks for all the advice, I'm about to try to find Al Qaswari and pick up those parts. Once I get everything sorted out I will be looking to go off road, so hope to see you soon.

Thanks again,

Gus
