Mounted CB Radios - Where/How to buy?

Fri May 06, 2011 11:34 pm

Hi guys,

Like a lot of people I've got those chinese walkie-talkies, but I'm wanting to move up to having a fully mounted CB system. Thus far I've ordered most of the kit necessary to mount and tune an antenna, however I'm holding off on the radio itself as I want to avoid wasting my money buying something that will get stuck in customs.

I'm leaning towards a Uniden 510 or 520, but I've absolutely no idea what's on offer locally. For those that have radios, what kind do you have, and where did you get them?

Hey Codger,

IF I were you I wouldn't get one fitted as if you get caught you can get in serious trouble here. IT is very expensive to register a CB, and you will have to sign a waiver to say you will only use a very limited number of frequencies. I am not sure, but I think it is actually a federal offense to get caught with an unregistered CB in your vehicle.

Good luck though.

PS, if you are thinking of ordering one form outside of the UAE I would be VERY careful as the customs guys are told to stop them unless on official order! :D

First time I tried getting some walkie talkies I did indeed get problems with customs, and the TRA let me know it was restricted. However the person I spoke also suggested I just head to dragon mart and pick up something there, so it seems they turn a blind eye to it unless you make it really obvious.

Codger ...

As all said, it is unlegal to get the CB until you get the license ... If you want to buy fron dragon mart you will buy what ever you want & no body will stop you but if you get caught by police or CID .. you will be in thier hospitality (jail) for 6 monthes :S ...

So, my advice is to buy the dragon mart radio .. there is a prand called Quashing & it is around 300 AED
