Wow, great pictures Paolo. We have a couple major nesting beaches in Cyprus too. and they are fairly well protected.

Yeah, it was awesome. This was open beach.
BTW, handling turtles (or other wild animals) is not the right way to go about it, so please don't take these pics as example. There were plenty of turtles, but those I documented were the ones we intervened. The first turtle was an old momma who got stuck out in the sun (they come in at night and lay hundreds of eggs under the cover of darkness, and they have to get back in the sea before the sun comes up) and she was in distress: completely exhausted and dehydrated. That's the one you can see the kids running and pouring water over her. She was big and old, but she eventually mustered enough strength to make it to the water!
The baby was found totally in the wrong direction - heading up the wadi to the mountains!! LOOOOOL so that was a goner unless we turned her around and put her on the beach facing the waves LOL as soon as it sensed the downhill, it took off like a little rocket!
And the most dramatic rescue was the young mother turtle who I spotted stuck in the rocks just before dawn - took 5 adults to pull her out she was so heavy! The tide was coming in and she was pinned down so also she was going to die if we hadn't intervened.
So, please don't think you can pick up and touch any sea turtle you come across

normally you wait in darkness and silence and just watch 8)
