need some help

hi guys
i am thinking to change may back suspension from leaf to coil for my lc 71
do any body have an idea and do you recommend a garage?
for the last 3 days i was calling some garages and shops asking them about it and most of the they did not understand
the car feels like riding a camel with leaf suspension and i do not need leafs because i do not carry heavy thing around
guys i also thinking of getting a arb inboard twin compressor did some one try it

first of all you would need to find somebody who can weld, and not a regular welder, this has to be somebody with exceptional skill to make sure you get the spring posts, brackets and perches in the EXACT location. Then you would need to find the right size coils, spring posts, perches, track bar brackets, track bars, stabalizer bars, control arms and brackets top and bottom and so on.
After all of this you would need to make sure that there are no clearance issues with the new set up and also that the suspension geometry will not be affected by the new system.
If they get some things slightly out of line you will end up ruining your differential, possibly drive shafts and maybe even the transfer case due to the set up being twisted.
It is possible, and I've seen the reverse done with a grand cherokee, check these three links. Not an LC but still a similar situation, just in reverse. And although leafs are a little less comfortable, they are a lot more reliable and easy to maintain. If I were you I would stay with the leafs, it is a lot less hassle and a lot more reliable. Just my two cents.

Yes Tony, the reverse is possible, but I do not think that ridding the leaves and installing regular shocks is do-able here, and I would not recommend it.:smiley12:

Just havign a think about it, and you could probably save a lot of money just buying the best quality shocks you can find. These would help the ride somewhat, and will save you a lot of hassle down the line. Also, how old are the leafs? You may benefit from getting newer ones put in, just a thought though!

I think isn't Possble ..
it's just like my XJ Jeep cherokee,i tried to fix coil in it
but the they told me i can't coz they have to build a new basis on the difrinshial ..

Its a waste of time and money...you might be able to do it but you will nefver get teh geometry right and the handling will suffer.
Better to leave the leafs as is or buy another car with coil spring rear suspension.
For a slight improvment on your current setup you can get adjustable rear shocks and see what adjustment offers you the best ride.

Exactly. It is possible, and many guys do it with their big pick ups in the states, but I wouldn't trust any of the guys here to do it properly as it could be extremely dangerous if done wrong. Maybe you could speak to xkennx on here as he works for a company that makes armoured vehicles so he would be a good source, but still I wouldn't do it!

Is it possible to get parabolic leaf springs? If so, they generally ride a LOT better than conventional, multi-leaf springs.
