Mon Nov 28, 2011 6:20 am

More Advice Please!

My Jeep transmission should be fixed Wednesday 30th November. Inshallah !
However, my Jeep vehicle license expires Tuesday 29th November. Hmmm

Does anyone know whether there are any fines applicable of whether I should call anyone to explain?

Absolutely no problem, Paul. You get a month!s grace period to get your renewal done.

Exactly. The insurance is the most important part. I was a month late last year and had no additional fines or payments to make!

The regestration system in Abu Dhabi is designed in such a way that it provides a months time to renew the regestration from the actual date it expires.

This is the reason that your car insurance is for 13 months...it covers the one moth that you have to get the car re regestered.

Now if you exceed teh one moth grace period you will be fined AED 10 for each day ANDmore importantly you will become an uninsured motorist which can land you in big trouble.

You get fined AED 10 PER MONTH and not PER DAY.

That's the comflicting thing mate. I saw on the police website that it is ten dirhams per month, but when I got the sms to remind me to register the jeep it said 10 dirhams per day!?!?

AED10 per month is the fine - I've done several renewals recently and they all said the same.

My Jeep was 9 months overdue when I bought it - but the seller paid the HUUUUUUUUUGE fine of AED90! A bigger problem was that the bloke in the insurance office took my money for the transfer of the insurance and then "forgot" to update the details so when I tried to register it, it came up as "uninsured" on the system. It took some sorting out and you can be sure that they will not get my business next year.
