Guys, one question. What happens if we damage our car offroad? How do we get police report? Do we drive straight to the nearest police station or we can go to the police after the trip, like the next day? How about when only one car is damaged?

These are rather pertinent for me since my car is new and .....

when we had an offroad accident in November, we called the police as soon as we were in mobile range. They instructed us to meet them at the nearest Adnoc. They didn't want to visit the accident site - though it would have been interesting to see a saloon car go where we had just been! Only our car was involved, we hit the only metal water pipe sticking up from the sand for hundreds of kilometres. I took a photo of the offending article and the policeman accepted that. Wanted to copy it onto his camera but his didnt support compactflash cards.

Thankfully Phantom and his friends stayed with us to help us with the police, as the Saeed guy didnt speak a word of english!

Once in range of a phone signal, call the police.....from there on it is totally dependent on the person on the phone. I have been in situations where they ask you to go to the nearest ADNOC to meet them, then they ask to be taken to view the site.....some will fill out the forms there and then, others ask for the car to be brought to the nearest police station.

There is no hard fast rule, you'll need to follow the instructions of the person on the phone, but to make things easier, mention that if the vehicle is safe to drive then you can get it to a nearby location and meet them there.

Ok here is the deal.
During the GN fun drive (remember it was my first ever offroad event) I had damaged my car and did not notice it till later at the camp. The paint work of the body and even the bumper are perfect, absolutely no damage. However when I turned the wheel to the extreme right or left, the right tyre rubbed against the bumper. In the excitement of the drive(once again, I beseech you to remember this was my first ever offroad drive) I thought this was a minor issue and did not bother to get a police report from Dubai.

The next day I took the car to the dealer workshop and told them that I will pay for the bumper to be fixed, since there was no visible paint damage, they did not object and said they will examine the car and give me a report. The report took a couple of days and imagine my shock when I was told that the under carriage behind the front bumper had been damaged ......I was advised to get a police report since I would have to claim from insurance. It has been about 5 days since I collected my car from the workshop and the shock has not worn off yet. Now my dilema is how to get a police report for an event that has occured about 10 days ago... The car has been parked since then and I don't have the heart to drive it till it is fixed... however the police report is an issue!!

If anyone is offering their shoulders for me to cry on, they are welcome.

The car is insured for offroad. The insurance was provided as a part of the offer when I bought the Pajero.
So I had this confirmed from the insurer. The insurance company has verbally confirmed that the policy covers offroad as well.

Please let us know what insurance company you are insured with because there are only two companies in the UAE who offer offroad cover.

Also the insurance you get as free form the car dealers seldome covers offroad. Read your policy and don't get taken by verbal assurances.

I have been down this road and can help you if you can say what insurance company you are with.

The car is insured with Dubai National Insurance and Reinsurance. The agent I sopke to confirmed that they have included offroad insurance as a package of the offer from Mitsubishi.

The standard clause of the insurance document states that unless it is mentioned as included, offroad insurance does not apply. In my policy, there is a part called 'Notes'. Here, one of the words mentioned is 'offroad' and the agent confirmed that all that is mentioned in the 'Notes' is included in my policy.

However all this confirmation is by verbal (telephonic) only, since the document should speak for itself.
