Do Wrangler 4 cyclinders have any say in 'casual' off-roading. there are kind of mixed reviews I learnt. But what do the experts say. And also what are the sentiments for Grand Cherokee V8 (~~2000-2002), if found in a decent condition.

In my opinion, 4-cylinder Wranglers are not suitable, but of course it's possible to have a great time driving them in the desert! lol

You will cry when you try to sell it, though!

Grand Cherokee is powerful and a comfy ride, can be a bit heavy on the maintenance costs as stuff just keeps breaking. Also not particularly recommended, except that they are real cheap to buy. I'd say better a Cherokee than a Grand.

a 4 banger would be good for easy drives and maybe to get you started and build your confidence, but as PR said, not really suitable. The good thing about them is that they are very cheap to maintain compared to its younger 8 cylinder cousin! Check this link for some comments and a cool video of a 4 banger climbing rocks in moab. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index ... 420AAEv0r6

I had a 98 GCV8 and it was AMAZING.......... When it wasn't broken down!

Anyone has an idea about 2006 Golden Eagle edition of wrangler. What is the reputation of this car, and what should be reasonable price of a stock piece.

Its a long Sleeping topic but just want to add a concern. I am planning to get either a Wrangler TJ 2004-2006 (Price around 20,000-30,000) or a Grand Cherokee 5.7 V8 2005-2010 (Price around 20,000-30,000). My budget MAX 30,000/- including all upgrades etc.
I will get a lift of around 4 Inch on both which ever i buy. Now the question is what would you suggest or Prefer and reason for that? I can understand that not many garages will be able to handle 4 inch lift properly for Grand Cherokee WK as easily as Wrangler TJ.
Well my personal preference is Grand Cherokee 5.7 V8 due to power and torque plus 4 doors & Quadra Drive 2 system....but may be TJ is a better option in Desert Specially due to its shorter Wheel Base and easy/cheap maintenance. Many mechanics may not be able to handle Quadra Drive 2 that easily etc.
I was driving Land Cruiser Earlier 2002 V6 but long wheel base was a bit challenge.....I think Grand Cherokee has around 10 Inches shorter length. Same thing with Patrol Safari 4.5/4.8......i think length almost equal to Land cruiser.

Your kind suggestions will be HIGHLY appreciated.

Hi there,
whatever you end up buying - go to Al Khoury Service Center in Umm Ramool and ask for Zafar or Wajid (2 brothers running the show).

I own a Jeep 2006 4.0 bought it with only 20000 back in 2008 as stock.
i used it as a daily car and some off roading, and at first I could hardly find an excellent and affordable garage for maintaining it. I know of ICON, RAMY, JEEPERS but they are a bit expensive.
Today my JEEP has 315,000 kms on it and is in better condition than when i first bought it with the following modifications done to it as of NOV 2016:
* Full Engine disassembly, cleaning, De-carbonized, oiled and serviced back to new (@250,000 KM)
* Rancho 2.5 lift inch + Shocks + Heavy Duty Short Lower arms & Upper Heavy Duty Arms.
* BBK 63mm throttle body + Hesco 63 MM throttle spacer
* K&N cold intake
* Heavy Duty transmission oil cooler
* 32 " BF Goodrich KO2
* 4.56 gearing + Yukon Posi unit carrier
* heavy duty differential covers with oil check dip
* SYE + heavy duty rear double cardin Shaft
* Griffin Aluminum Radiator
* Borla short Headers + Mopar High performance catalysts + Gibson exhaust and full cat-bak
* Auto Best high performance fuel pump.
* performance Injectors + spark plugs ... etc
* Superchips TD2 system and tunning.
the list goes on and on..... as that is what i could remember right now
Above work is the work related to engine, transmission & drive terrain.
I also worked on the looks, by adding vents, lights and nice accessories....

My TJ used to look like a corolla if parked next to a modified Jeep.. now i am proud to say that i never encountered any TJ as beautiful as the one I own (I maintained a classic look).

@250K i felt the power and torque are gone, couldn't even spin the tyres, now it feels like a monster revived.

Yes it did cost me in the range of 60K between parts (mostly ordered from USA) and labor but if the work was done some where else I would have paid twice as much.

As for the quality of work, u can not even see any wire visible, and i never had a check engine light on since that day...

Mr Zafar sometimes would do a free service or wouldn't charge me for a job, and say that I have a credit in parts removed from my Jeep, this much honest they are.

Check them out... and i am happy to share pics or Vids of my ride.
