Having given up on Beadlocks for the meantime, the question of what size tire can be stuck into the wheel well arises.

I'd like to get Mrs. B something that will give her the best capabilities. We noticed such a difference when we went from 265 to 285 with the FJ that i'm wondering if 305s will be better. I read in other forums that there is a bit of power lose going to bigger tires but that may not be significant when off road. Again, I'm hoping that the more experienced of you out there will help with this question.

Note, all my posts are about her car! The things i do to please her.

Stick to 285's as you will loose much power with the 305's

If you wanna go with 305's you will have to get a R & P upgrade.

Also 305's might be a bit of a squeeze in the wheel arches.

I noticed the car already has BFG's on it...what size are they ?

As wasif says, you will lose power, and could possibly need to upgrade to ring and pinion to cope for the power/extra stress on the gearing system in the axles.
If you like the BFG's, stick with them. They will serve you much better in the duel purpose of the vehicle, will last longer than MT tires, have a more comfortable ride on the road, and be much less noisey.
Then again, I love my Kumho MT's, they are a bit noisey, slightly firm on bumps in the road, but are way superior to most AT tires out there. Plus they have not popped out on me yet and I have given them ample opportunities too.

Again, it is taste specific. Do you want a happy medium of road/sand comfort and performance, or something that is not so great on the road but amazing on teh sand?

We got a set of 265 reasonably cheap as the tires were very near minimum tread with one being in a poor state. I think that 285 will be sufficient without going to the need to do major surgery on the gearing. Leave that for another day.

I might be willing to swap my 285's for a set of 265's if they are in good shape !

For good performance on the sand, stick with 265's.......if you install 285's, the car will struggle going uphill in soft sand, unless the R&P is upgraded to make up for loss of power.

BTW, why does Wasif want to exchange his 285's with 265's?

Oh BTW AEV has a sweet deal going on R & P upgrades right now at a very very gooood price.

i still searching for 275 BF... it is hard to be found . i don't recommend 285 at all cuz I tried it in my old nissan patrol 3 years ago, the car lost hug power.
there is several choise than BF a/t i still searching ....

the 265 is availabe

well it seems I had one of the last sets of Kumhos. They aren't importing into the UAE with national tires now. Ah well.

Dont go for the 285's am happy with mine, but they can be a struggle at times....and thats with the VTC engine.
265s are fine but the best are 275s......but are as rare as rocking horse shot!!!!
