Please advice on used car.

Hi all,

From the first two trips I realized that its better to keep my Pajero as a family car and buy an old offroad car for uaeoffroaders trips. my budget is maximum of 15k ( love to have around 13k ). pls suggest some options with models like 96 wrangler or 99 cherokee etc. I am concerned about huge maintainance costs. ofcourse I will have to do usual services and small wear and tear repairs, good to have a picture of maintainance costs for old cars of different brands. will there be any problem for yearly vehicle passing and renewal for too old cars ( and also for modified cars for offroad)? Is there any law preventing us to use too old cars like 15 yrs old something like that?

Sorry to ask too much basic things, I am just a junior offroader.

Cherokee 98/99/2000 models.....u should get one within your budget, problem is that it is JEEP (Just Empty Every Pocket)

Nissan Patrol 1995/96/97........very reliable....u might need to enhance your budget for the initial acquisition.

Condition is more important than age. My Jeep is 15 years old and was in a mess when I got it but it was cheap. That means that I have been able to spend enough extra money to get it into reasonably good condition for about AED 16,000 (including the AED8,000cost of purchase) - but I have done a LOT of the work myself and I also know a lot about its condition.

Whatever you spend, you will almost certainly need to spend more! AED10,000-15,000 is dangerous territory because that could buy something great or it could buy something with a LOT of hidden problems.

Especially if its a Jeep ....you can definitely count on all the possible problems to crop up and usually ALL at the same time !

Ali I have had jeeps in the past and if you don't abuse them and keep to a preventatve maintenance programme should have no problem. The key is not to be in a hurry the season iss nearly over cars are cheaper in summer just be patient

Indeed there's no substitute for proper maintenance. I have a large binder full of invoices/service records from when my Jeep was new and I have nearly 390,000km on the odometer.

Thank you all for the advice. I will wait for the summer as JC said. I understand that proper preventive maintenance should be done to keep the car in good cond. But, I have no idea about JEEP's maintenance cost, I usually spend around AED 300 for every 5000 KM for my Pajero .

jeep maintenance is very high i used to have a jeep and i was bleeding from the maintenance espcially that not all the garages know how to deal with jeeps so you will need to go to the agency which they do it right so you pay more

my 2 fils advice if you want an offroad car go and search for a 95-97 model nissan with a fuel injection engine , it is awosome and anyone can fix them , prices depends from 15 to 25 AED

The other option is to fix it youself. Jeeps are easy to work on and parts are cheap.
