DSLR Buying Advice

Sun Dec 19, 2010 1:23 pm

Guys.

I am looking to upgrade my camera equipment to DSLR. I currently have a Canon G9 12.1 MP camera which has served me admirably so far but its only drawback is its slow speed in continous shooting (fps)

I am looking at the following cameras.

1. Canon EOS 500D Link http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos500d/
2. Canon EOS 550D - Link http://www.dpreview.com/previews/canoneos550d/
3. Sony A580 - Link http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/S ... lra580.asp

I am not much of an expert in the technical side of cameras and would appreciate your inputs on this.

primary use is family and off roading pictures with a requirement of a good frames per second count and a zoom of over 6x which is what I have on the G9

The standard bundles on Canon are with 18 x 55 lense and 18 x 135 lense...(which costs more). what exactly can the 18 x 55 do comapred to the other.

How does the Sony range compare against the Canon ? they have the advantage of IS built into the camera body which should mean that the lenses are cheaper compared to the opposite in Canon ?

Persons who have good knowledge in this field are requested to supply some advice on these. Also on where one can get the best deals on these.

In my opinion any DSLR with about 14.0 MP should be fine as there can be hardly any further increase in picture quality going over this, is this accurate.

On my wish-list, from Sharaf DG Deira, prices as at Nov 26:

Canon 60D + 18-135 lens 6,300
75-300 zoom lens 1,300
wide-angle lens 2,125
external flash 700

Problem is, my old Olympus still working ok :( so I'm unsure if I should upgrade. I know it's time, but the old Olympus keeps publishing ok and the editors don't complain, so why plonk down a fresh 10k?

I got the Canon 500D bunder comprising of 18 - 55 IS lens + 75 - 300 zoom with a bag and a memorey ard for a very good price from our dear friends at C4 ! Pity toe zoom is not image stabilized !

Now need to get a spare battery and take some lessons from Ali on how to use this beauty to get some great snaps.
