BREAK-IN FOR NEW CARS - What's your style

As you all know, when you buy a spanking brand new car, there is this necessary process called BREAK-IN where you drive the car at a certain pace to ensure proper break-in for the engine and what have you.

Manufacturers suggest that you don't over-rev, don't drive at the same speed for more than 10 mins???, avoid sudden stops, i.e. braking hard...

What do you do?

As for me, well, I drive it like I stole it.

LOL...drive it like you stole it is the only way to do things....my FJ was out in the desert with only 450KM on it the first time !

Now with 80,000+ km on it there is no sign of trouble at all.

In modern engines the running in period is greately reduced as little as 200 KM from new ill be more than sufficient but manufacutreres like to play it safe as they are looking to minimize warrently claims so they say you need to break in the car for 2000 Km then get an oil change and its ready to abuse !

My newest car so far has been a 2004 model, so generally I spend some money fixing things and/or change the tyres, then sell it and buy something different...... however during the 4 months when we owned a "grand" sherokee, it was only my bank balance that was broken in - big time. I am strongly against the idea of ever buying a brand new car (unless suddenly winning the lottery) as about 20-40% of the value evaporates like the misty water vapour of a mirage within the first couple of years. During all of my buying and selling antics of the past 3 years I have generally managed not to lose too much on any vehicle and with some have sold at the same price at which I bought.

Anyway, on to new cars - I recommend you buy a pleasant smelling air freshener, wash the vehicle often - do not let dogs inside it and drive it as carefully as if it were a new born kitten, for the first 1000kms - then give it to Ayoob or WawaGaga.

The best way to break in is to tail gate a Merc AMG65 on the highway towards the Saudi boarder, the Merc slowly increasing speed to 200 kms and stopping for 30 minutes every 15 minutes. On the way back, the needle on your speedometer should come all the way and beyond the maximum number on the speedo, be it 200, 220, 240 or even 260 tail-gating the Merc. Now you have nurtured a ROCKET. eace:
