I was suggesting X-Terra, cause I saw it driving now recently in Liwa, the trip from Arada to Moreeb... We were there a group of several cars (FJ, Nissan, Toyota, Jeep) and X-Terra got stuck after 500 meters from the raod and he couldn't move back or forward, sitting pretty deep. After several attempts with winch, the situation repeated. The driver was on intermediate level, so I guessed the improper tyre pressure, however he swore that he has 15 psi in tyres. I checked with my pressure gauge and it was 19 :) So we reduced pressure then to 11 psi and the car after this small adjustment was literally floating on top of the sand. I was watching him all the time in my rear mirror, he was driving straight after me in the convoy. The car performed very well and on the whole trip he didn't get stuck anymore.
Other cars who got stuck on the trip were FJ's, but not because of the car, but because of the driver :)
Selecting X-Terra saves lots of money, where FJ is maybe 40% more expensive. If you can choose MT, then the car should be just briliant in the sand :)

Last I looked the X Terra was 111,000 and the FJ was 129,000 thats not 40 % . You get a much refined car with the FJ

Could be... could be... I guess time will tell.

Another piece to the puzzle: here is where Nissan's bet is going http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_Rogue - Launched in 2007, this is what replaced the X-Terra in its Mexican market, and funnily enough also replaced the X-Trail in Canada. It's based on the X-Trail / Qashqai, it's 4-cylinders 2.5L... bah. Awarded best something or other for 2010...

BTW, I like the X-Terra, and recommended it earlier in this thread. I'm just speculating :)
