Al Ain to White Sands Cafe (AD-Himeem Road)

Mon Jan 09, 2012 11:40 am

We've found a relatively easy way to get to Himeem/Moreeb/Liwa Crescent from Al Ain. This route is about 10kms longer than going via AD, however it is less stressful as there is so little traffic on the way, and you avoid the E11 Saudi road completely.

From Al Ain
Drive to Al Qua'a
Turn right at N23 26.746, E55 26.411
Follow this road for about 73kms. Blacktop, fences on both sides, no speed cameras but a few loose camels so take care.
Turn right at N23 36.397, E054 45.029
More blacktop
Turn left at N23 38.978, E054 45.400
There is a security gate here but the guard didn't even look up as we passed. Onto gatch track.
Turn left at N23 39.116, E054 31.691
Onto good quality gatch at this point.
Turn right at N23 36.120N, E054 33.344.
Follow this and it will take you to the main road at the White Sands Cafe.
Turn left and you will be at the Liwa Crescent in just over half an hour!

Oh, I thought this was going to be a trip report! :smiley2:

Thanks for doing your homework, Marina, and finding this route.
I loved doing it, especially the return trip, when we jumped off the gatch
at the bumpiest parts and cruised on the saaaaand!

BTW we only recommend driving on the sand alongside the gatch if you have a minimum 3 cars in your convoy, and take your recovery kit too. You wouldn't believe how soft the sand was, and how tricky some of the dunes were, only 50 metres from the gatch!
