PR, if you want to do any performance mods to your XJ, take a look at what I've done to mine and send me a PM if you have any questions.
Wasif, no need for a supercharger or ricer gas (NAWSSSSSSS!) to add performance. A good old-fashioned stroker will give you a shedload of grunt right from idle rpm.
He only needs the inlet manifold and that can come from a '99-'04 WJ, '00-'01 XJ, or a '00-'06 TJ. He can keep his existing throttle body and injectors though I do have a set of '99-'04 injectors for sale if anyone wants them.Richard Moss wrote:If you can track down an inlet manifold, throttle body and injectors from a 1999-2004 WJ 4L that is supposed to give a welcome power boost a lower revs due to the better airflow in the later manifold.

Thanks. I built the stroker in 2004 when I was still in Saudi. I'd bought all of the stock replacement parts locally and only imported the "go faster" bits from the USA. This was my stroker parts list:
http://www.angelfire.com/my/fan/parts.html
I've done 112k km on the stroker and 392k km on the Jeep. I sold my original engine (in pieces) on to a fellow member of the ad4x4.com club and he also had it rebuilt into a 4.6L stroker. When I disassembled the original 280k km old engine, it looked like it had only done 50k km. No surprise since I'd babied it and it was running very strong. The only reason I did the stroker at all was because I'd got used to the performance of the old engine (despite the upgrades) and wanted more.

A question: how does one carry an engine into the house, and back out again when fully assembled?
I have a spare room, it's on the ground floor by the entrance, but there's three steps, then the door, then a 90-degree turn right into the room, total 15 metres max.
I'm liking the stroker build!!! 8) It's a perfect hobby... thanks XJ 4.6 Stroker!!! But I want to do it at home, in A/C comfort, in the "female majlis" which I use as an art room for my kids. Hey, engine assembly is an art, too!!! LOL

Sounds like you need a double-wide sliding-glass or garage door.
And on second thought, the sliding glass door still only allows single-wide access, so... garage door it is?
What about constructing an access-friendly temp space with a window unit ac?

Window! Nice thinking! LOL Hadn't even considered that!
Another buddy gave me this idea, which I think is the most solid way to do it: Use two wooden boards, parallel to the floor, one on top of each other and starting from the top of the steps slide them forward until they reach out to the bottom step, but keeping them parallel to the floor, not like a ramp. Then you put support under them so they can carry the engine's weight (250kg).
Make sense? Now you have a flat surface the height of the top step, yeah? So you lower the engine onto it. You pick up the hoist and take it to the top and pick the engine up again... sounds good to me!!!

I cobbled together my 4.6L Frankenstroker from an assortment of junkyard and aftermarket parts while I was still running the original 4.0L engine in my Jeep. When the stroker was finished, I had it swapped into the Jeep and I kept the old 4.0L engine as a spare. A year later when I left KSA I stripped down the old engine, put the bits in the back of the Jeep, and shipped the Jeep with engine bits over here. I eventually sold the engine over here minus the stock 4.0L crankshaft and pistons for 2200 AED to a friend who gave it the fate it deserved by having it rebuilt into another 4.6L stroker.PR wrote:My engine is also in tip-top shape and pulls hard, so it would be just for the fun of the project.
