Yeah, 3" will require new shocks - but let me ask differently, why 3"? For sand dune driving I think less lift is better: even just 1.25" gives you a nice bump in clearance, and more importantly keeps your centre of gravity low. And if you wanted 3" to fit giant wheels, they will actually slow you down.
I would consider a coil spacer up front and extended shackles at the rear - like this: http://rustysoffroad.com/mm5/merchant.m ... sus_xj_kit

If anybody wants just a 2" coil spacer fro the front I have a pair. You can have them for free, just need to collect them. But again, any lift on old shocks will need new shocks soon. You should be OK for a while, but they will be really overstretched and face possible failure either on road or sand which is baaaaaaaaaad!!!

Lets face it guys shocks faliur is a major issue can lead to an injury for the driver
Its not acceptable if the risk percentage is more than 35% which i think as per ur comments it exceeds
Spacers ... Its ok to lift the car with spacer but it wont give u the desired traveling
So iam not recomending
3inchs are not a must iam ok with 2 but for 2 inches they will fit spacers again beside my tires are big
Hammad
I can do the hamty damty lift kit you are talking about but again i dont want to break my shocks while iam in the car
I will see what can i remove from the terafelx kit to shrink the price

On the rear I would not advise adding another leaf because that will make the suspension very rigid, and you will bounce. Instead the best way is to replace the shackle (which is between the leafs and body) - same benefits as above and same cheap price.
A final note - when you "upgrade" the stock suspension, keep in mind that not only you will lose the stock geometry, but also the ride will be harsher and you will no longer be able to use stock shocks. I maintain that for driving on sand dunes a lift of 1~1.5" is enough, and it will cost you around 350 dirhams total.
Coil spacer in the front will sit between the spring and the body - this is perfect for 1" or 1.5" lift because you can keep the original shocks and the feel/geometry of the original suspension. More wheel travel is not the objective for sand dune driving so that's not an issue. Also it is the cheapest way to lift the front, as it will cost you around 100 dirhams, and installation needs no adjustment, only two bolts off, and back on.DaBDoB wrote:i have a same confuse Khalid with my XJ ..
