Hi all,
My name is Ian, and currently living in Bahrain, although travel to Dubai office once a month. I'm from the UK and have lived in Bahrain since Dec 2013. Luckily my company have given me an FJ cruiser which I simply love. I am a very experienced off roader in rock climbing and mud, but sand is a different animal. I have had a huge range of 4x4's over my time Landrovers, Y60 Nissan Patrols, Suzuki jeeps but in 1998 purchased my first Mercedes G wagen, and had 6 of these after that. I will say not the fancy 463 AMG versions but the basic 460 series, although my last G wagen was a 463 SWB that I shoe horned a 5.6 ltr V8 into, which was an absolute beast.
I am looking to bring my car over in Dec to have some mods done at ICON, front and rear bumper, side steps, and a 3" lift, are these guys good ? or any other recommendations ? I also want to do a desert trip and maybe Oman, and wondered if you guys do such trips.
Some of my trips in France can be seen here...black patrol and white G wagen

Hello there Ian, and welcome to the gang.
Icon do a lot of good work, however a bit pricey. Are you looking at fabrication of parts or off the shelf?? Before committing to the lift kit, check with the forums online, as different manufacturers have different tolerances, I know with Nissan u can only go 2 inches before having to install shaft realignment kits.
Regarding trips, December is awesome weather to be out and about and yes there will be numerous ones running, if not we'll just have to arrange one!!!
Again, welcome to the gang and keep dropping in!!!

Hi,
I have had a quote of the fabb'ed work, and I found it quite resaonable, however always looking to save a buck. Who else can do the work.
I only want 2" lift really, will this affect the propshaft balance then ?. Off the shelf stuff I quite like the ARB front bumper, but need side steps..got any links for local UAE fabricators/suppliers ?

Hello and welcome, Ian!
I have recently installed the TJM lift kit in my FJ and I'm very happy with it. The shocks come with 3 removable rings (fitted at installation time) so you can opt for a lift between 1 to 3 inch. I went for 2.5 inch and I don't have any issue with the car - still feels perfectly balanced. The springs are progressive, from light to medium.
UAE Offroaders get a discount with TJM so the kit is just AED 3000. Add another AED 350 for installation.
The only other thing I would recommend for the sand is all terrain tyres. BF Goodrich or Cooper AT 3 are among the favourites.
