WASIF, you are one heck of a meanie! Lol!Wasif Ahmed wrote:LOL .....it's mayhem and total chaos but that's what makes it so fun. Where else can you see burning Durango's crashed Xterras and the obligatory broken down Jeeps all at the same time.
And you don't have to stop to recover any of the stuck cars you pass on the way. Just wave and drive on.

Lol Richard, I have been longing to do this since four years ( around the time I laid foot in Abu Dhabi). But then I wouldn't want to do all those other things as well even if I was paid to. Will certainly consider your advise.Richard Moss wrote:Exactly my point. If a UAEO trip was run like that, the marshals in question would be demoted for their lack of professionalism. If your idea of "fun" is a dangerous, chaotic drive when participants are placed at unnecessary risk, then you really should question your own attitude to off-roading.
Mosalf: do yourself a favour and find something else to do on those days: snake charming, alligator wrestling, chainsaw juggling etc.

It is however Dubai this year, no where near as interesting as Liwa.
I've yet to go myself, but I always hear the same story. As I understand it, our group breaks away not long after the start, and re-joins later on. If you can keep the mob at arm's length I'm sure it's fun.Mosalf wrote:Lol that bad huh?

Its a family tradition with us to do the Fun Drive.....there is a trick or two one learns over the years.....first is start late around the middle of the pack and let the crazy drivers go first ! The start is always like an F1 take off ! Great to witness from afar !
Late start benefits are you get to drive with sensible crowd around you and you really dont have to use the Tulip charts that much as the tracks left by the starting racers will guide you in the right direction !
Another and much more important tip is to go with a small group of drivers that you know are experienced so that you can do it at your preferred pace.
One year I ended up with a huge convoy and we kept getting delayed as some of the cars were getting stuck so we couldnt complete all the sections of the drive.
And most important is that the food at the campsite is always awesome and so is the breakfast and the lunch so all you really have to do is carry drinks and a bit of fuel.

Did it two years ago and will Certianly sign up this year again. True what you are saying though, its carnage, last time we went it looked like a sea of cars, STUCK, we helped and pulled a lot of guys out but later gave up as time was flying by. Did not go last year as I did not want to see all of those rookies taking on Liwa.
Wasif gave the best advice, get into a small group of drivers you know CAN drive, dont stop to assist others not part of your group, and the food is awsome.

It is always fun but surely not to see the carnage out there, yes, photo session's great......Wasif gave the best advice...Will I go this time? WHY NOT....hehehe
