What to do, what to do????

Sun Oct 23, 2011 10:24 am

Well I am trying to decide on what to buy for my next toy and my options are as follows:

1 - Pathfinder R50 series (01-mid 05). Very common for parts, lots of mechanics can work on this with no problem. Reliable, but slightly pricey for the year (2001 sell for around 22000+ and 2005 sell for 35000+). Can be changed to manual from auto very easily, same power as the ZJ I had with a smaller, more compact engine! ;)

2 - XJ, any year. VERY familiar to me fro repairs and mods, cheap to buy, parts interchangeable between ZJ and TJ so many spares around, easy to modify and repair myself, BUT tend to have mechanical problems and can be pricey to fix if I can't do it myself :)

3 - YJ/TJ basically the same as the XJ but smaller size, so very good power to weight ratio. :p

WASIF, I won't buy an FJ as I don't like to drive barbie cars. I won't buy a patrol as I like driving things that weight less than a small warship, and I am not really looking to buy brand new as I am on a bit of a budget for the next few years due to my studies!
I'm looking to spend aroudn 25000 max including (possibly) a 2" lift and offroad tires, tight I know, but that's what I have to work with!
So, let me know what you think please!

Thanks :D

If you need a light weight car why you are confused... Clearly its XJ or TJ but for 25k u wont get a decent TJ
For 15 maybe you can get a nice XJ i have seen an amazing one for 14k but not sure if its still avaiable or not

I know what you're saying guys, but I feel liek a change from Jeeps fro a while. I also would liek something that I know won't break down to often as jeeps have a tendancy to do! I do love XJ's, and YJ's but feel the reliability is just going to make me end up paying the same in repairs as a pathy would without repairs. Still, the door is WIDE open and I will see a few cars over the next month or so and see what I feel is best suited to my needs! :(

Tony ...seriously look at an older Land Rover / Range Rover .....prices are well within your budget and they can be fun cars if in good nick.

....or get a Vitara

You will hav grandchildren if you waith for the FJ to fall in your price bracket ....LOOOOL :smiley12::smiley11::smiley8:

Even so, I'd have great great great great great great great great great great great great great great grandchildren before I considered buying one, by that time we'd all be driving hover cars and wearing funky tinfoil suits boss so it would be irrelavent by then. ;)

Some may disagree, and they won't be LR owners, but Jeeps can be considered reliable machines when compared to Land Rovers!!!

I say XJ, with the spare on the back ;)

Good job you said that PR as I was looking at a couple of 2003-2005 LR Defenders on Dubizzle last night. They look clean and have pretty low mileage but I have heard some stories of weak steering components and not-so-good cooling systems leading to overheating!
